Cunard Yanks
1.30pm (the film lasts approximately 1 hour)
Hollywood legends were frequent guests at Croxteth Hall - travelling the Atlantic by luxury liner. The Beatles and the Liverpool sound may have shaped popular culture but the Cunard Yanks supplied the essential ingredients - the music, the sense of arrogance, cockiness and a sense of humour. This is their story.
"We were all on this ship - a ship going to discover the new world and the Beatles were in the crows nest" - John Lennon.
"Cunard Yanks is quite the best source for capturing that wonderful moment when Liverpool showed off its style, pulling away from the dull austerity and bland provincialism of post Second World War Britain..." Professor John Belchem, School of History, University of Liverpool
"The Dream Boats - They were 'peacocks and posers'. But they were just working-class kids who went to sea on liners - and brought back some glitz to post-war Britain." By Deborah Mulhearn
